Pros:
I don't know if getting this piece of junk in my mail almost every week is a pro, but it's more of a nuisance now. I use to use the AOL CD cases for storage, but they changed the packaging now.
I suppose the only pro I can think of is I will be happy if I can just get rid of it.
Crons:
I don't think the Consumers Review will allow my cons to be published :-)
I'll be polite.
1. Price - they are over-priced! Most ISPs today are around $9.95 and up, why pay $23.95 to get worst service, beats me.
2. Reliablity - completely sucks. Disconnects is part of AOL's name.
3. Too bulky - it's as if they imagine the world of AOL users to be completely ignorant and cannot find things for themselves. Too much clutter and pop ups, marketing BS and what not.
Additional Comments:
The biggest problem with AOL lies with its extremely slow connections. Don't be surprised if you get speeds below 9K, yes folks, 9K, that's no joke!
And they do charge $23.95 after the first month! What a bunch of morons. Try to cancel, see what happens to you. They try to give you 2-3 month "free", then they charge you. Call to cancel again, they whine and try to give you more months free. You just can't cancel this disease!
I should be laughing out loud but this isn't even funny anymore. On my next dial up attempt, I was given a 19.2K connection which was still hopelessly inadequate to check on my email & log on to most sites, especially rich media sites.
Their compression system really screws up my images! I was getting half baked pages with almost all of its images missing. Even relatively simple sites like Google would take an eternity to load.
Logging on to this site, the consumers review, was a nightmare while trying to find other reviews on AOL was even worse. Oh wait, did I mention that AOL causes my PC to frequently crash for no apparent reason?
It won't even let my computer shut down after logging off. This is something I'm sure others have experienced where your computer would simply continue running with a blank screen when its supposed to be shut off. This means, you'd have to turn off the power in order for it to completely shut down. I had experienced the same problem with Compuserve but at least they gave me a 45K connection which was more than double compared to what I got with AOL.
As if the poor connection speed wasn't enough, getting booted off every 5 minutes was just too much to handle. I am sick and tired of wasting my precious phone calls in an attempt to get reconnected. As of noon today, it will be my turn to say a permanent goodbye to AOL. I strongly urge other users to dump AOL if you have access to cable, DSL or other local-based ISPs in your area.
With such poor service, the $23.95 you're paying just isn't worth it. As for those useless free AOL Cds, well, you could always send them to www.nomoreaolcds.com.
